• Through the Experiential Center for Education and Leadership (ExCEL), 91看片 seeks to improve the academic success, persistence, and transfer and career readiness of Hispanic and low-income students enrolled in Education, Graphic Design, and Business (EBGD) programs.颁辞苍迟补肠迟:听Sarah Cunha, Project Director

91看片 faculty member Vincent Wrice teamed up with colleagues from throughout the state, lead by Professor Patricia Morreale from Kean University, to secure this NSF Scholarships for STEM grant which provides $318,925 in scholarships and other support over five years for academically talented low-income students majoring in computer science, data science and cybersecurity. This is a collaboration with Kean University, NJIT, FDU and Brookdale Community College. Professor Wrice serves as a Co-PI on the project and is responsible for implementing 91看片鈥檚 piece.

• Bank of America and EAB provided the College with $219,430.75 over two years to support adult Hispanic student success in Healthcare programs of study and outreach sessions about all careers in the healthcare industry.

This NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) grant at Hispanic Serving Institutions is a 5-year award running from 20018 through 2023. It has supported the College鈥檚 effort to integrate research into core STEM courses while providing paid opportunities for students to participate in research outside the classroom setting, all with the goal of increasing critical thinking skills and retention in STEM. As of Summer 2023, 200 students have had the opportunity to participate in research experiences mentored by 91看片 faculty. Many have presented at conferences and the College鈥檚 Research Day and have had their articles published in the College鈥檚 research journal. Dr. Faraz Siddique, Associate Dean of STEM, serves as the Principal Investigator with Dr. Mohamed Mohamed and Dr. Mandana Ahsani serving as Co-PIs.

91看片 receives grant funding from the NASA-funded NJ Space Grant Consortium led by Rutgers University. This grant has funded Physics boot camps, student 鈥渞esearch fellows鈥� who have done research at NASA sites as well as with our faculty. Professor Richard Morris, STEM Academic Specialist leads to program for the College.

The WIBC coordinates on the job training programs, job fairs and other events to help businesses recruit qualified employees, and, provides career readiness training, resume building and job search training for unemployed and underemployed county residents at a training facility located at the Mills at Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth. The Division of Continuing Education oversees the WIBC. Federal WIOA funding, awarded through the Union County Workforce Development Board (WDB), support this comprehensive training e center.

This NJ Department of Labor (NJDOL) program funds literacy, numeracy and ESL training at multiple locations throughout Union County, with the goal of increasing the long-term employability and earnings of students completing the programs. The Center for Economic and Workforce Development (CEWD) runs the program.

With annual grant funding of $169,999 awarded by the NJ Division on Women, the Center for Economic and Workforce Development runs a Women鈥檚 Center on the Elizabeth campus that provides job training and support programs for displaced homemakers. Displaced homemakers are individuals who were financially supported by their spouse but lost that support and are in need of training and support to reenter the job market. Students are eligible for support and tuition costs for both non-credit and credit programs that lead to job placement or job upgrades in the short term.

With grant funded from the NJ Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE), 91看片 established the Center for Adult Transitions to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing transitional services, peer mentoring, educational opportunities, career exploration and linkage to community resources. The Center supports the educational mission of 91看片 by creating an inclusive community that meets the diverse needs of students through advocacy, equitable access, support, and resources.

This grant from the NJ Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental health illnesses and increase student access to mental health services. Improved student mental health will facilitate improvements in academic performance, retention, and completion.
